★ Ganymede J. Tros ★
[ Male ] [ Human ] [ 18 ] [ April 25th ] [ Confused ] [ 5’6” ] [ 138 lbs][o-]

"According to conditional probability after each one of you falls your odds decrease, and given 5 of the 9 of you have fallen, it takes at least 6 tries to succeed. So your odds of survival ⅙ or 16 percent. Isn't math fun?”

Once upon a time Ganymede had a passion for wandering in ancient ruins and a lust for technology long forgotten, but this was quickly snuffed out of him by a society that places little value in such ventures. He still carries around a mysterious Ancient artifact in the hopes that one day he will find a way to unlock it’s contents. He lived with his mother and little sister in a one room cottage in the country for the first 17 years of his life. They where no strangers to poverty. As a child he was called "ignorant, dirty peasant" often by people of a higher social status then him. Ganymede comes from the nation of Aydon, also know as the land of light.

On his 18th birthday he was drafted into the military to fight in the Erebus/Aydonin war.  He tried very hard and failed even harder at being the fearsome warrior society demand of him. Machismo comes about at naturally to him as flight does to Junebug-- all his attempts at it inevitably end in crashing. Despite the warrior guise he is deep down a pacifist-- partly because he big heart, but mostly because the sight of anyone else’s blood makes him faint. The other soldiers in his company found it very amusing to exploit this fact. The rest of the time they were teasing him for being short and looking like girl. He has been knighted by Umbriel, the Queen of Erebus, for saving her life, but according to Ganymede that was a huge misunderstanding and he doesn't deserve the honor. By the Aydonin military he was discharged  for being a “donkey philandering traitor”, and saving the enemies’ queen, Umbriel. Nowadays his former company is out to put his head on a pike, despite his instance that it’s a misunderstanding.

To cope with his feelings of inadequacy he has developed a sardonic sense of humor and a healthy habit of self loathing in addition to the already present teen angst. He claims that he doesn't have any talents whatsoever, but everyone knows he is full of shit. He can intuitively decipher anything written in code or another language with almost no effort on his part. Despite receiving no education he taught himself to read his native language, Aydonin, then he went on to unlock the forgotten and dead language, Ancient. This ability is purely based on the probability and frequency of letters, however. When it comes to speaking other langues he is all kinds of awful. All of this "nonsense" does him little good in a mostly illiterate society. He never shares his talent with anyone because it is “useless”. Gany posses allot of esoteric knowledge about really random and specific things. It's "never EVER useful", except when it is. He can summon at will a small mechanical golem of ancient technology named Mimas, and have the little bot repair anything. Ganymede is vary good at using mechanical and technical devises. He could definitely pick the lock on everybody's house in town and steal all their things, but he would never ever be such a jerk. Gany is utterly convinced he is 1 IQ point away from mental retardation. Gany can do math in decimal, binary and vigesimal. "It's easy." he says, "Just use your toes."

Ganymede have big soft heart and an overactive case of empathy, which explains the whole blood and fainting thing. Ganymede will never kill anyone if he can help it. He is often willing to protect others, and will put his own life on the line with reckless abandon. Luck is almost never on Gany’s side. When he gets into a skirmish he always comes out a mess. When he doesn't get into a skirmish he comes out a mess anyway. By all accounts he should be dead by now, but the cruel world seems hell bent on letting him live to suffer another day. Most of the time Gany is a total wuss, but after the initial shock of seeing the first blood in battle he is able  to overcome his inhibitions. He wakes up from the faint a new man. Blood is no longer a problem. Pain? He takes it like a champ. Fear? He sends it running home to it's mommy. Klutziness? Well... that never goes away.

He is cute enough be the next womanizing Casanova, but his bad luck and self defeating lack of confidence ensure he will never get a girlfriend, or even lose his virginity for that matter. Being hit on normally renders him speechless, and a with a face so redshifted that it transcends the visible light spectrum. Gany might also be bisexual, but no one knows for sure-- least of all himself. Many ladies adore him, but as cruel fate would have it, the only one who doesn't is also the only one Gany has fallen hopelessly in love with. His unrequited love for Rhea persists, despite the fact that she is a total jerk to him. Something about her encyclopedic knowledge of swords or her ample bosom has Gany absolutely convinced she is the purest embodiment of perfection. Unfortunately every other male is equally convinced of this fact.

Ganymede is quick to warm up to people, and will confide all of his woes and faults at the drop of a hat. He is not the best judge of character, however, because he assumes everyone is inherently good. Gany never understands the motives of other people, and he understands romance even less. Gany might hug you at an inappropriate time. If you are a man he will call you sir. If you are not a man he will call you sir anyway, but quickly apologize. If you confirm Gany's supposition that he is indeed the most pathetic person on Earth, then he might burst into tears. Afterward he may seek to justify the oxygen he takes from the air by doing some act that is selfless, but also incredibly foolish. Gany is spacey and absent minded. He will almost always be late. He will almost always have forgotten something of dire importance. He doesn't lock the door at night, because he wrongly assumes everyone can pick locks as well as he can.

Ganymede doesn't have many purchased martial possessions, mostly because he never had any money. What little he does have is old, ragged and most likely a hand-me-down. He does however a decent sized collection of ancient artifact, which he found himself, and a bunch of old texts written in ancient. His room is kept in the most chaotic state possible, much like his hair and his scene of dress.  He often loses his stuff among his other stuff, which is probably why he's almost always late. Gany says he will adopt a more ordered life style once he has read every text ever written.

Ganymede traveled to Elderahn to get that free education he was deprived of his homeland. With some education he could finally get a job as a scholar. As of now there are really only two skills in which hes been trained, farming, and being a soldier. He hates both activities equally. Ganymede decided to get a job as an outpost guard, because it was the most applicable to his skill set and potentially less boring than farming. Gany has the technical skill to be a scholar, astronomer or mathematician now, but didn't apply for those jobs. Gany was dead certain he would not get accepted.

Maybe someday he will be able to completely overcome his insecurities, acknowledge he has talents and use his knowledge of ancient technology to bring society out of the dark ages and into a new area of enlightenment. Or maybe he will wet his pants the next time a girl hits on him.
